The Taiga is Russian for "forest" and is also the biome of the needleleaf forest. Taiga’s are located mainly in Canada (North America) and Russia (Eurasia). (Click here for general location of the Taiga biomes). The average temperature for a taiga can be from 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer to -80 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter (40 degrees Celsius to -62 degrees Celsius). The annual average of precipitation is about 250mm in a Taiga. Last, the Taiga is the worlds largest terrestrial biome.

The summers in the taiga are very hot and the winters are cold. For more information on the East Siberian Taiga Click Here.

What should someone Pack for an East Siberian Adventure?

The East Siberian Taiga would not be an easy place to live if you're a human . If it was summer you would need a lot of water due to the extreme heat and in the winter you would need to wear extremely warm clothes because of the extreme temperature. Also, you would need to bring a lot of food since the Taiga biome has a low biodiversity compared to other biomes in order to obtain food. Your adventure would be roaming through an endless coniferous forest.

Evergreen Trees

(Spruce, Fir, and Pine)

Evergreen trees are the dominant plants in a Taiga Biome. They have adapted to withstand harsh winter conditions and have shallow roots in order to soak up more water. Their pines have a dark green color to absorb more sunlight in the summer. Last, evergreen needles limit water lost due to transpiration.

Broadleaf Trees

(Birch, Aspen, Willow, Rowan)

Broadleaf trees aren't as populous as Evergreen trees in a Taiga Biome but they also adapt to harsh winter conditions like the Evergreen trees. They grow wherever soil is the best quality and where the sunlight is most abundant.

Mosses and Lichens grow mostly on damp ground but they can also grow on sides of trees, but grassesmostly grow where ever sunlight is shining the most through the thick view of the trees growing around.
